Atrazine Reduces the Critical Period of Weed Interference on Narrow Row Corn Planta Daninha
PADILHA,M.; BARROSO,A.A.M.; CARVALHO,L.B.; COSTA,F.R.; BIANCO,S..
ABSTRACT The objective was to determine whether a change occurs in the critical period of weed interference prevention in narrow row corn with the use of atrazine and whether there is influence of the herbicide on crop yield components. The treatments consisted of periods without or with an initial weed control (0, 21, 35, 49, 63, 77, and 91 days after emergence), with or without application of atrazine in spikely post-emergence. The experiment was carried out in a 2 x 7 randomized blocks design (with and without weed control and seven periods with three replications). The use or not of atrazine was arranged in a split plot design. The most important weed species were Senecio brasiliensis, Urochloa plantaginea, Conyza bonariensis, Sida rhombifolia, and...

Crescimento e nutrição mineral de Urochloa arrecta Planta Daninha
BIANCO,S.; CARVALHO,L.B.; BIANCO,M.S.; YAMAUCHI,A.K.F..

Interference Relationships Between Weeds and Sugarcane in the ‘Plene’ System Planta Daninha
MOSSIN,C.B.; HIJANO,N.; NEPOMUCENO,M.P.; CARVALHO,L.B.; ALVES,P.L.C.A..
ABSTRACT: Sugarcane is one of the most important crops planted in Brazil in that the presence of weeds in the fields has promoted significant yield reduction. The objective of this work was to evaluate the differential growth response of two sugarcane varieties cropped in the ‘Plene’ system as a function of the coexistence with different weed species. Treatments consisted of the coexistence of Bidens pilosa plus Ipomoea quamoclit, Ipomoea hederifolia, Amaranthus viridis, Urochloa plantaginea, Panicum maximum, and Digitaria horizontalis with two sugarcane varieties (RB92579 and SP80-1842) cropped in the ‘Plene’ system, in addition to a control without weeds. The design was completely randomized with three replicates. Dry matter accumulation of weeds was...

Non-Destructive Model to Predict Commelina diffusa Leaf Area Planta Daninha
CARVALHO,L.B.; ALVES,E.A.; BIANCO,S..
ABSTRACT: Leaf length (L), leaf width (W), and leaf area (LA) were measured from 100 leaves aiming to determine a simple linear equation (Y=a*X) to predict the leaf area of Commelina diffusa, an important weed infesting annual and perennial crops in Brazil and worldwide. Results indicate the equation LA=0.7*LW reliably estimates the leaf area of C. diffusa, after correlating LA with LW, and then validating that equation by analyzing four new 25-leaf samples.

Plant Growth Responses of Apple and Pear Trees to Doses of Glyphosate Planta Daninha
CARVALHO,L.B.; DUKE,S.O.; MESSA,J.R.; COSTA,F.R.; BIANCO,S..
ABSTRACT Glyphosate is commonly used for intra-row weed management in perennial plantations, where unintended crop exposure to this herbicide can cause growth reduction. The objective of this research was to analyze the initial plant growth behavior of young apple and pear plants exposed to glyphosate. Glyphosate was sprayed on 2-year-old 'Gala' apple and 'Abbè Fetel' pear plants at doses from 18 to 720 g per hectare of acid equivalent (a.e.). The plant height of neither species was not significantly reduced (less than 1%) by any glyphosate dose at 240 days after spraying, whereas the stem diameter and the dry mass of stem and leaves were reduced by 720 g a.e. ha-1. The glyphosate dose required to reduce the aboveground dry mass by 50% was 162 and 148 g...

RESPOSTA DIFERENCIAL DAS CULTURAS DE MILHO RR E SOJA RR À EXPOSIÇÃO A GLYPHOSATE E ADUBAÇÃO FOSFATADA Planta Daninha
CARVALHO,L.B.; PEREIRA,M.D.C.; BORGES,P.E.V.; SILVA,F.J.; COSTA,F.R..

Weed Interference on Productivity of Bell Pepper Crops Planta Daninha
ULJOL,L.H.O.; BIANCO,S.; FILHO,A.B.C.; BIANCO,M.S.; CARVALHO,L.B..
ABSTRACT: The objective of this work was to determine the interference periods of weeds of the bell pepper cultivar ‘Dahra’. Two experiments were conducted during the years 2014/15 (harvest with lower rainfall) and 2015/16 (harvest with higher rainfall). The treatments consisted of 11 growing periods of cohabitation and weed control with ‘Dahra’ bell peppers: 14, 28, 42, 56, 70, 84, 98, 112, 126, 140 and 154 days after transplanting (DAT). For the determination of the interference periods, the productivity data were analyze using the Boltzmann sigmoidal regression model. The main weeds were Eleusine indica, Brachiaria plantaginea, Digitaria nuda and Nicandra physaloides for presenting high biomass and relative density. The concomitance of these weeds...

Weed Interference on the Accumulation of Dry Mass and Macronutrients of Eggplant ‘Nápoli’ Planta Daninha
MARQUES,L.J.P.; BIANCO,M.S.; BIANCO,S.; FILHO,A.B.C.; CERVEIRA JR,W.R.; CARVALHO,L.B..
ABSTRACT: The presence of weeds may affect both growth and nutrition of agricultural crops due to interference. The objective was to evaluate the interference of weeds in the dry mass distribution and in the accumulation of dry mass and macronutrients in eggplant. The treatments consisted of increasing weed-free and weedy periods (0-14, 0-28, 0-42, 0-56, 0-70, 0-84, 0-98, 0-112, 0-126, 0-140 and 0-154 days after transplanting) in eggplant ‘Nápoli’. The experiment was arranged in a randomized block design with three replicates. Weeds affected the distribution of dry mass between vegetative and reproductive organs of eggplant. There was a significant reduction in the accumulation of dry mass and macronutrients when weeds grew with eggplant crop beyond 42...
